Feeling Burnt Out? Ask Yourself These 8 Questions
Have you ever been at your desk wondering, “am I burnt out, or am I just tired?” It can be hard to uncover what you’re feeling, especially since burnout can stem from many causes. Common sources are stress in your professional, personal, or social life. We’re focusing on job burnout, but you can also adapt the questions for other types. We put together eight questions to determine if you’re heading toward burnout.
Top 8 Questions to Ask Yourself
Ask yourself the following eight questions. Think about your regular workday before you started to feel tired to see if it’s out of the norm.
Do you dread going to work in the morning?
Starting with a biggie, but one of the most important things to ask yourself. Maybe you’re not a morning person, and that’s understandable. But, if you force yourself to get ready and go, it can be due to burnout.
Are you having more bad days than good?
If more and more days are becoming “bad days” at work, it could be part of a larger issue. But if it’s never happened to you, it could be because of job burnout.
Do you think about quitting or losing your job often?
If this takes up a large part of your day, it could be due to burnout. You likely don’t want to be there if you spend your time daydreaming about quitting.
Are you feeling exhausted, no matter how much sleep you get?
Burnout isn’t the only thing that causes constant exhaustion. Though, it often pairs with other burnout symptoms, especially if it wasn’t common for you in the past.
Are you too tired to meet up with friends on days off?
On top of feeling tired at work, it can trickle over to your days off too. You might feel too exhausted to do anything social when you’re not at work.
Has it been hard to focus on your responsibilities?
Trouble focusing can be a symptom of burnout. You may feel like your mind is always elsewhere, and you can’t focus on your job.
Do you leave everything to the last minute?
You may be procrastinating everything until the last possible second. Delaying tasks could also be because of a lack of focus. Job burnout often reflects only finishing your duties with a looming deadline.
Have you been experiencing more frequent physical aches and pains?
Unfortunately, burnout can impact your physical well-being as well. Stomach aches, upset stomach, back or neck pain, and headaches can result from burnout.
